How I felt today

I get pretty bad PMDD symptoms (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder). Depressive feelings, clumsiness, forgetfulness, fatigue, I sleep too much, don’t sleep at all, irritability, bloating, difficulty concentrating, and so on.
And to top it all off, very strong appetite.

But I am pretty happy with how I did this Friday. Went for groceries and picked up healthy ingredients that are keto-friendly.

My blood glucose level went a little over 100 after a meal but I think because I had a bit too many nuts: Pecans, macadamia nuts, brasilian nuts, and Star Seeds. They were delicious and I over indulged myself.

The peak was at 104 after the meal
I’m using Libre Freedom Sensor to monitor my blood glucose level continuously

Decision to use a Continuous Blood Glucose Monitor: Freestyle Libre

Reason

I decided to shift to a continuous blood glucose monitor. On a ketosis journey, monitoring your blood ketone levels or glucose level is a must. I had been pricking my finger sporadically to check my blood glucose levels, which was proving to be both inconvenient and uncomfortable. I got tired very quick. I wanted an easier way to keep track of my glucose levels without the frequent disruptions that came with the traditional method.

Alternatives

Before making the switch, I explored different ways to monitor my glucose levels. I considered using a different type of glucose meter, but I carrying the device with me was too cumbersome. And though pee sticks are inexpensive, they don’t quite give me the same satisfaction as knowing the actual numbers. I tend to have a constant need to be on top of my ketosis journey especially when I am about to fall off the wagon. haha. After some research, I discovered continuous glucose monitors were on sale and was immediately intrigued. The thought of having real-time data on my glucose levels felt empowering and less invasive.

Pros and Cons

The downside of Freestyle Libre is of course its price. Shedding $85 every two weeks is not cheap at all. But with the real-time data, I can monitor which food affects how. And I plan to check my blood glucose level until I bring my weight down quite significantly. To imagine pricking my finger until then is not really exciting. So despite the expenses, I think the benefit easily overweighs the cons at this point.

Conclusion

Switching to a continuous blood glucose monitor has transformed my experience with managing ketosis. It has given me a newfound sense of control over my health journey. Now, I feel a wave of calm knowing that I have continuous, detailed real-time data about my glucose levels. I no longer have to endure the constant pricking of my finger, and instead, I have more time and energy to focus on my overall well-being. This switch has made me realize that managing my health does not have to be a chore, but a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
